In 2009, we opened our ART GARDEN, to display vertical garden art and to provide outdoor seating in pleasant weather. In 2011 we began growing on walls indoors, and in 2012 we began adding aquaponic vertical gardens indoor and out.
As our creations grow, they evolve, sometimes pretty dramatically. And we keep changing things. So, what you see on one visit to the Singer Hill Cafe (or in one photograph) will be different the next time you come!
Here are some photos:
We been perfecting aquaponic “patio pond” vertical gardens since 2012. We put fish in a barrel, cover the barrel with the same fabric we use on our walls, and add plumbing (in one system using a pump; another uses city water pressure) to keep the barrel ALMOST full. Then we add wicks around the edge of the barrel, which pulls the water out of the barrel to hydrate the fabric, which acts as a growing medium fertilized with fish waste. We’ve been building and selling our Wicking Well (TM) Patio Ponds since 2013. If you would like to order one, contact someone at the cafe.
In 2011 we added an indoor vertical garden that towers over our children’s play area.
